    GTX580 appears on nvidia website

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=27055

If we were cynics, we'd think that this 'accident' was a move to draw attention away from AMD ahead of the launch of the Radeon 6000-series. While this - combined with the now confirmed GTX 460 and GTX 470 price drops earlier today - will certainly generate a fair bit of coverage, it's unlikely to deter the media storm that will surround the launch of the new family of Radeon GPUs.

Nonetheless, it's a sly move by NVIDIA that will, at the very least, have the fanboys salivating at the prospect of an ultra-powerful Fermi GPU.

like `duh` nvidia trying everything to shift the focus away from AMD with the up coming `chpeap as chips fast as hell` HD6850 and HD6870

If that were true I would honestly think they would do a lot more than just make an obscure reference on a webpage few people are going to notice and then remove it quickly thereafter.

I guess they're counting on tons of people reading articles like the Hexus one, although I'm not sure what good they think it will do. I would think it would be better to officially announce the thing rather than vaguely hint at it with no additional information whatsoever, but I guess I presume they might not be quite ready for that yet.

Or I guess maybe they figure a series of hints will provide more hype and mystery surrounding the 580 if they attack it from the right angle before fully releasing its specifications.

They probably don't want to let out too much information right now, since this will probably be their answer to the high end 6900 series, so they are basically confirming the rumour of a GTX580, but not letting on anything else.

oh i wouldn't worry about nVidia.

    a 512 CC/800Mhz GTX580 should easily trounce the Cayman.

Easy to say, but on what do you base that statement?

Just need to keep up to date for when I have my LOTTO win...

At what cost? not like people can afford a 599 bucks video card since the GTX 480 is already 499 bucks.

Re: GTX580 appears on nvidia website

    More Fermi rumors:
GF104 full version is the gtx475?
GF104 new core will be built the full array of 8 groups of SM, while the core of the current GTX460 powered by only 7 groups. Since July, NVIDIA GF104 equipped with a core GTX460 received no small influence, but with the release of new competitors, NVIDIA three months to establish the influence is gradually reduced. Now, NVIDIA has no time, they need to have 8 groups of SM GF104 array core product released, has more influence.

We know, including GF104/106/108 core, including, in each of their core SM CUDA array contains 48 core units and 8 SFU (Special Function Units, special function modules). The new product will be a complete set of SM 8-core CUDA array of 384 and 32 SFU units by others. Therefore, CUDA than the GTX460 will be the core increase the number of 48.

In addition, the texture units may also be increase from 56 to 64. Complete array of 8 groups of products in the performance of SM is likely to be easier than on the GeForce GTX 470, but price to 200 dollars or even less GTX470 is quite worth buying, of course, which is based on the TDP and you do not care about their 215W the premise.

Would they not consider preempting the 6900 series by releasing specs now? I mean, if the 580 is faster or at least appears so, I would think it might put nVidia in a good position beating AMD/ATi to the punch. If it turns out to be slower, they might not look so good announcing it after the 6900 series anyway.

Would AMD have time to try to compensate for performance if they knew the 580 was going to be faster? Revising the final clocks or something?
