Phone Geeks! EVO 4G v.s. HTC Hero

I'm switching to Sprint. The cost for 3 people there is by far cheaper than any other carrier available, and the any mobile any time is pretty much unlimited minutes to us.

So I'm looking at their phones. The HTC Hero Google looks nice. The EVO 4G looks better. BUT!!! The EVO is $120 more expensive AND has that retarded $10/mo "cool phone" surcharge. Ya know, just like where my ISP says "you have a 10 megapixel digital camera and a 24" widescreen, so we're charging you $10 more for the same speed DSL, cuz your hardware is like... awesome and lets you enjoy premium surfing". So that's a big turn off.

But I'm not a phone geek. All I know for 100% sure is I want an android phone, and I'm not sure that the EVO is really that much better as a device to justify an extra $10/mo just to own it. I'm sure most of the people here know more about phones than I do.

The EVO 4G is a FAR better phone than the HTC Hero. I have the Hero now and just Ordered a 4G. Get the 4G if you can afford it!

You cannot even compare the EVO 4G to a Hero, its like night and day.

Yes they run the sam OS but that is where the similarities end!

Like the others said there are two genenrations of phones between the hero and the evo 4g.

    It's like you're comparing an iPhone 2G to a 3GS.

Yeah, the hero's nice but it's also really old. There's really no reason to get one unless you're getting it for free. Jump on that EVO.

The Hero wont be going higher than 2.1 (officially). The Evo, being new, will stay in the upgrade circle for a while now. Go with the Evo.

Android is awesome, but you will soon learn the headache that is OS updates. I have an HTC Magic and our latests official ROM is cupcake (1.5). There is a 2.1 promised, but no one is holding their breath.[thumbdown] Thank god for Cyanogen.

As soon as the Evo is available around here I'll be getting rid of my Hero and getting one. Don't get me wrong, the Hero is a great phone especially with 2.1 on it. But the Evo...damn, that things a beast!!

I'm torn between this and the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S, it's nice to have options.

Not sure about Samsung, but a big tip to anyone looking at Android phones: look into the companies update policies/promises/past. The rate of updates will start to slow down, but 2.2 was just released and the next version "Gingerbread" is slated for the end of this year. It sucks to be left behind. Ask DsK. [cursing]
