SH Comic - Fan Fiction

Had a little spare time and thought I'd throw these 'teasers' together using most of the promo material from FM.

My plan is to use in-game screen shots with some real-world photos (maybe some sketches if I cba to put the effort into drawing), stylise them and make something of a comic - or graphic novel if you prefer - set in this awesome universe.

I won't be able to sit down and do it till after I finish Uni so it's a way off yet but now that I've announced my plans I should have some impetus to actually do it!

I've never done anything similar before and the only 'comic' I've ever read was Watchmen so I'd love to hear what you guys think (particularly wrt the styling) and if you have any pointers please don't hesitate!

Also... if anyone knows how to perhaps run a developer mode of the game where I can load up maps, insert models and ghost around without a HUD that would certainly make things much much easier...

Looks good so far! Should be interesting to see the story develop.

The photoshop filter might be a bit overdone imo but you could offset that with some vector work to make it more comic book looking - using screenshots as the base.


As far as I know FGS has some fancy way of doing their screenshots - probably a separate build of the game....

well, find you main character, or set of characters. I think having a dual-group comic would be good. Have a group of some ISA and MMC characters, and show us there different point of views. That would make it doubly interesting. Then, have some discoveries, like one of them finds the American flag on the moon.

I would also like to help out with some of the writing, and i think it would be better as a book with pictures. But a comic book would be totally weinerriffic.

My plan was / is to have 2 editions; one MMC and one ISA. I intend, for now, to follow a single character in each faction with a first person narrative but that may change when I come to write it down. I may also merge them together to get instant feedback on how certain events play out to 'the other side' but I quite like the idea of keeping them distinct and, ultimately, biased.

As for the rest of the plot; I have quite a few ideas but I intend to keep them hush hush... if you do want to get involved with writing tho then there's nothing stopping you; I like the idea of an illustrated book but descriptive writing is not my forte so I'd just start writing if I were you.

Logan, I agree somewhat wrt the filters. I still haven't nailed the look I wanted but it's getting there... Fortunately I'm keeping the files set up so that I can play with the filters any time in the future.

I did almost stick with having no filters at all but having seen some fan-made movies in other games, the one thing, I think, that a fan-fiction needs is a distinctive style so that it doesn't feel like it is just 'in the game'. I didn't play with overlaying vector graphics though so I shall certainly give that a go.
