Cuz it costs more, uses more power, produces more heat, makes more noise and most importently it's not out yet.

That is wrong shock, they are both just over 400 here in the Uk and reviews have shown that the 295 uses more power, although do run a bit cooler, noise is also on a par with the 295. Not to mention the 480 has the DX11 advantage, better PhysX performance is single chip etc.

If you don't have a problem with running the 295, then you shouldn't have one with the 480.

Oh sorry, he's chosen to buy a HD5870 so I was just outlining why he's probably not considering a GTX480.

Haha well it was more a case of: after some research I found out how much the 295 actually costs and it's way over budget. Hence why it was down to the 5870 or the 285... and the general consensus is that the 5870 comes out tops.

Ah well, reason enough. The 5870 (or an overclocked 5850 is better actually) is the best deal right now anyway, even vs the 480, the 480 is faster, but it's too expensive and for some, hot right now, i tend to agree.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, I should have specified I meant the reference HSF, I was meaning to exclude Vapor-X etc from the list (and whatever the NV variant is assuming there is one).

Let us know how you get on with your purchase Cubase, should be a huge upgrade!

Nvidia cards I've always found to be way too expensive in comparison to ATi's offerings, in Australia.

5870 is better anyhow so get it.

On the contrary, I was just quoted $1,070 for the new HD 5970! ...then again, I have yet to receive final prices for the 480.
