I've not picked up my camera in 5 months

The last time I pressed the shutter on my 5DMkII was November 09 in Bali.

I have no clear idea why I've not taken a single shot since then.

Eindhoven is not exactly the most attractive city, its winter, I've not been anywhere else since Bali, my work is killing me with stress and hours... - I guess those are all contributing factors.

Anyone else a keen photographer but experienced a period of photographers-block? - if so, what did you do to get out of it?

it's funny....i have the same issue.

i went to Hong Kong in September...after that i did some strobist sessions in November - beginning of February time frame...and since then....Nada...nothing.[cursing]

i tried to do some strobist stuff a couple of days ago but i failed miserably.I felt like...a nab...like i was holding a camera the 1st time...[cursing]

however i will pick up my D300 and do some night shots . Maybe i will regain my confidence...

    will post some shots later.

PS: it;s rainy and windy in Prague but i will go anyway!

Edit: i think i've said it before, impressive galleries Chris!

I don't worry about not taking photographs for months. I just wait until I feel like it then take it out for a spin and there are nice keepers each time.

Buy a smaller camera that you can take with you everywhere (Panasonic DMC-GF1 + 20mm F1.7), and you'll find yourself taking pics once again.

I haven't almost since I upgraded to a camera I waited months for

Though I've been working and if you think Eindhoven is bad come down to be suburbs of San Diego county.

Yeah I think it has a lot to do with a lack of opportunity and inspiration locally. I haven't really used my DSLR in a long time. I have an S90 that I take the odd shot with but my photography has died off to such a point that I'm wondering about getting rid of the DSLRs altogether.

Couldn't agree more, plus it fun to use legacy lenses on the GF1 aswell.

My current favorite lens the M39 Leica screw mount Voigtlander Ultron 35mm F1.7

Just love this lens bokeh is superb.

Got bored with DSLR's as i was never using them as much as i liked due to the size & weight & the silly paranoid culture the UK is in with Terrorism & Pedophilia atm.

Take a big black DSLR anywere these days in public, & you get constant evil looks of parents & uneducated chav dimwits!! thinking your somekind of pervert, or your likley be stopped by the PSO's or the Police under Section 44.

The GF1 while looks like a P&S doesn't even raise an eyebrow, when out & about, image quality is on par with budget DSLR's.

I don't know if people count me as a "keen" photographer, but I have been in the same rut as you. How to get out of it, i don't know.

Like you, my job takes up most of my shooting hours. 8-5 is a good chunk of day, with little time before hand (gotta get ready for work), and only some time after. And while i know bright daylight isn't always a photographer's friend, it is better than landscapes in pitch black. [no]

The other problem, like you, is that I am just bored with what is around me. Despite what others say, New Mexico is a very boring state, with anything worth seeing being a several hour drive, and even then only yielding minimal results. Of course, it doesn't help that I have no models to shoot - the wife hates her pictures, and the dogs aren't exactly camera fans. Our apartment is boring, and with all my creative juices drained from the day, its hard to find inspiration in the same house i have been in for 3.5 years.

The smaller camera idea doesn't work for me for two reasons -
    - weight isn't an issue for me; its either all camera or none (none being when I am at work).
    - the other is quality. The little compacts just don't fit the bill for me. I am nuts, but have ridiculously high standards; if its not something that i could see selling in a big print (aside from family snapshots, which still need a large print quality), it isn't worth doing. I know, its nuts, given that I have only ever sold one of my prints ever, but its just me. I guess I only want to produce the absolute best that I can, and using mediocre (to me) tools just wont help me.

I wish i had the ability to move out of this bloody boring state, but its just not happening yet.. :(

    Me too...

I've lost the lust for photography and haven't really touched my camera for months. I've visited new places and didn't take much shots. Baaad

The last time I said something to that effect I got "shouted" at by mykledw. Now I've got a baby son those drives seem to be tougher to make.
