Swollen lymph nodes but no infection.

Well, so I've had swollen lymph nodes on the neck for the last few weeks. I went to a doctor the other day, and had `infection numbers` taken (c-reactive protein i think). It was so low, it was undetectable.

The lymph nodes are appx. 5 times their normal size, and are painless. One of them, which is on the side of the neck, is quite visible if I turn my head in the direction away from it.

So I've now got an appointment for a more thorough bloodwork, and if that doesn't show anything, I might have to have one of them excised for biopsies (after a few weeks to see if they regress)

    So I'm quite worried

Chances are it could be a cyst. I have one on my neck actually, just next to my adams-apple, been there for years it has.

Thing is, it's spread. First it was the neck one, now it's the two behind the ear as well.

maybe you could go play MD on google, then come back and diagnose yourself.

Well, you can hardly have blood samples taken online, can you?

Not a good sign, you may want to get a biopsy sooner rather than later.

my little cousin had the same thing happen to him when he was about 17. after months of tests and lots of money spent they were at the last straw and saying maybe it was some kind of lieukemia. Soon after they returned to normal and he grew about 7 inches, at which time they said it was some weird reaction associated to being in puberty.

I hope everything turns out well for you as well.

Definitely push for some more thorough tests. I have been having a series of test myself recently because I keep getting lymph nodes swell up. I also have an unexplained steadily increasing white blood cell count which is likely to be related and like you, I have no obvious signs of infection.

Im my case, it's being investigated pretty thoroughly without me having to put any pressure on my Doctor (GP) because I have a family history of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and this kind of white cell increase could potentially be a very early indicator that something is up.

If they decide that you ought to have a node removed for biopsy, don't hesitate to get it done. It'll be a pretty quick surgical proceedure that will be over in a matter minutes and will get you definite results and hopefully give you some peace of mind.

I had this exact same thing happen right about the same time as I had Shingles. The doctor said the swollen lymph nodes were a secondaty infection caused by the Shingles. Having said that, after a few weeks I'm sure you'd know if you had those or not!
