8 maps is not enough. Especially since the game modes are relatively indistinguishable (obviously they can be told apart, but compare Shattered Horizon Battle and Skirmish modes to, say, UT3 Domination and Deathmatch modes - one is OBVIOUSLY different than the other, both in maps, abilities, weapons, vehicles, etc), so pretty much every match ends up being the same. One gun and 4 grenades means that once you learn the tactical capabilities of each, there's not really much else you can do with them; not like, say, the impact hammer in UT3, which can be used for like 4 different things by ITSELF, then add to that guns like the shock rifle which can do the same, and the tactical depth is much larger and more long lived. Throw in vehicles from any other game (not suggesting vehicles for SH), and you'll see how they have a much, much longer shelf life than this game.
Then of course, you've got the issue of 8 maps; waaaay too little. And the pace of development of maps means that those 8 maps are going to end up being the only things we're playing probably for another several months; at which point we'll again have the same issue of getting bored with the extreme lack of maps and content.
And then of course we come to the lack of many game features that are considered basic in today's MP games, especially MP centric ones; spectator, voice chat, votekick, etc.
All of this points to if you advertise this game now, people will come, play, and then leave again. Even when the new maps are released, the problems are still the same; people will play the 8 maps instead of 4 over and over again, get bored, and leave.
Of course almost everyone will disagree with me because I'm not super happy happy joy joy about the state of the game and super optimistic that the "devs will pull through!!!!!!!1111", but so far I've been proven right and everyone else has been proven wrong, soooo....
