huh, time to break the bank.. again

Ok thanks for all the replies, the only real question now is 80 or 160GB. Money isnt really a factor in my case but justifying the cost, kind of is, considering in the past i've been the one to jump on the new tech bandwagon everytime, ive gotten a little less trigger happy lately, last purchases include a 9800GX2 and a system based around it on release and a Dell 3008WFP when it was available here, since then i've quitened down a lot.

anyone bought the 80GB only to realise later they would have been happier with the 160GB for the cost difference

Right now on my main array i have 88GB used, 30 of that is for Dragon AGE and GTAIV (the only 2 games i have installed), ive yet to reinstall wow if i ever feel like picking it up again. i could put games on another drive but is that something i would want to do, or is it just the trade off some people make because over the 80GB just isnt in their budget?

Go for the 160GB then you will have space since you are already at 88gb. I love my 160G2.

i've been reading up on more affordable larger density mlc ssd's penetrating the market in 2010 but i cant find any info on how fast they will be, who will be making them or what controllers they will use

intel has no plans for something in the first half of 2010 do they?

Bigger SSDs are faster. Plus, if you need >80GB space for your OS and apps I guess the decision is made, no? And do get a second gen+ drive.

Now it's time to SSD party! Do you have Win7? If not, get it for the native TRIM support.

In a laptop, the situation is more extreme because of the slower 2.5" drives usually used

    Here's one with X25-M vs Raptor 1500ADFD.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_Jz7IMwBt4

I'd say the result is pretty "extreme".

    Why is that?
    Higher density NANDs.
