    HDD RAID vs Single SSD?

For some reason theres an Intel X25-M 160GB with a 2.5" bay in an ebuyer.com basket in the window adjacent this, dont ask me why, maybe its just a christmas thing

Has anyone here moved from HDD RAID to a single SSD and noticed a difference on responsiveness in general. all iget from reviews is its a whole new world type of attitude between platters and good flash drives

hd taching my raid array results in 206.8 MB/s average read and 11.6ms random access

I thimk im pushing myself to move to SSD just out of curiosity, but would rather not be seriously dissapointed after spending £350.91 inc. 2.5" bay and shipping , i know the £200 for the 80GB isnt as steep to move to SSD but 80GB's is a little limited for my liking

Maybe waiting until next year is a smarter move for me?

    Wait.

You might see better seek times with SSD, but right now IMO it's not fast enough to warrant the price premium on a single SSD.

Just like RealTime said I would wait as right now for the price its just not worth it in most cases.

You can get the 80GB Intel one for around £135.

Only someone who hasn't used one on a daily basis can say this.

So worth it. Every penny of it.

I'm in a similar position. I don't know if I should shell out for a 80GB x25-m or just get a sammy F3 1TB until they are more affordable.

Here is the rule of the thumb: If you do not have to eat sausage and bread for weeks to be able to afford a SSD, it is worth it.

When I got mine over a year ago when a decent SSD did cost 800 USD here, it was worth it too for the speed boost I was able to enjoy over that time (still am).

RAID does not help with the access time, which is what makes the difference
