FIFA 09 - Controls SUCK!

First things first...

I bought FIFA 09 for the PC after playing on my cousin's XBOX (FIFA 03). I thought the controls were intuitive and easy to pick up but difficult to master. Here are some of the things that I just can't seem to figure out, even after reading the horrible instruction manual... aka, EA, instead of saying "Button 1, 2, 3, etc." for the controls, use something logical like a Microsoft controller and say "A, B, X, Y, etc...":

1. Did they erase the aiming reticle completely from the game? (through balls, free kick aims, throw ins)
2. How the HELL do I use the left stick to "aim" a shot? Every time I just hold shoot and cross my fingers.
3. What are the buttons for: sprint, send a run, defend/steal, and switch players?
4. Again, what the **** is the sprint button?? Because I'm sure as hell not "sprinting" up or down the field when I try each of the trigger buttons.
5. Is the right stick the only way to switch players while on defense?
6. How do I use the right stick when shooting? It doesn't put any spin on the ball like it says it does.
7. Every time I take a free kick, I always get this graph in the top right corner showing stats. How do I call it and how do I make it go away?


I'm sure I'll be adding more questions as I get annoyed with this game...

I've stayed away from fifa on pc. I was disappointed that it was consistently a non ‘next-gen’ port. Are you using a controller? Mine has always showed up with 1,2,3,4 etc.. as buttons both on the controller physically and in it's little program.

I'm using an X360 controller. Pretty much everytime I go to change a control, I press A to change it and it says "Press button" or whatever but then it immediately exits like it has no more buttons to change it to. I try to change Sprint from button 7 which I guess is the left trigger to button 8 which is the right trigger. But it exits like I said when I try to do that.

Not trolling, but I tried a football game on the pc years ago, and even with a controller, it just didn't "feel" right.

This is just one of those genres that are best played on a console with sofa + big tv.

Fifa09 should be optimized for X360 controller. there's no reason why it shouldn't control exactly like the console version. Are you sure there isn't a calibration problem or something?

I guess I wouldn't be so angry if I actually knew what the buttons did. Can someone clarify the trigger buttons/bumpers for me? What does each one do...

I don't have 09, so I can't help exactly....but I would just search for the Fifa09 x360 manual, surely it's online somewhere, and you can just go by that.

Agreed. I bought FIFA years ago for PC and it didn't feel right. I bought FIFA 09 on the day of release for 360 and I still play it almost every day. The game is terrific and no problems with the controls at all. The online features for it are what makes it awesome like the 10 v 10 and especially clubs. I have a club that got to division 3 at one point. Can't wait for FIFA 10.

Thank you sooo much for that link. Just a quick question again: are all the directions for the tricks/freestyle moves assuming I'm moving vertically? Like if it says:

Do < - > to do a heel flick.

If I'm going towards the goal >> way and do that move, will I do a heel flick and continue in that direction?
