X-bit labs did a 3GHz clock-for-clock comparison of the new CPUs versus the older X2 CPUs. AMD finally has something decent for those looking for a cheap, high-performance dual-core CPU with decent power consumption.
Thanks to the larger and faster L2 cache they do well in games (proper dual core) and thanks to the large cache to core ratio of the cut down versions they are again good in games.
In overclocking if they raised the cache to 2.8ghz on the cut down version they probably would have seen higher performance gains. If my X4 940 could get there then they should be getting above 2ghz properly with it. I'd be prepared to give up 200-300 core mhz for it.
Even better gaming chips from AMD that are even cheaper than before. Gaming on a budget keeps getting better and better!
Cheap CPUs, cheap GPUs, ect. ect. Now all we need is some more PC games being launched.
